The Ultimate Con-Bag Checklist: What to Pack for Your Next Convention
“When I first started joining Pan at conventions, people jokingly called me her ‘Con Mule’ because I helped her carry all her essentials…” - Dah
Fancy yourself a Con Mule? You’ll want to check this out.
Cosplay events can get hectic, so lessen your stress by using our Ultimate Con-Bag Checklist every time you pack to avoid forgetting any cosplay convention essentials. Our team of anime cosplay enthusiasts curated this cosplay convention packing list so you can feel well-prepared for an unforgettable adventure.
Remember: avoid over-packing, since you’ll carry these items around all day. Lighten your load, hold onto essentials, and thank yourself later!
Essential Items
- Convention Badge/Ticket: Make sure you have your entry badge or barcode
- Wallet and ID: Carry your ID, cash, and cards for purchases and emergencies
- Phone and Charger: Keep your phone charged and bring a portable charger or power bank
Health and Safety
- Reusable Water Bottle: Stay hydrated throughout the day — you may be asked to empty your bottle before entering, but there are usually water-filling stations inside
- Snacks: Pack non-perishable snacks like granola bars, nuts, or dry fruit
- First Aid Kit: Include bandages, pain relievers, and any necessary medications
- Hand Sanitizer: Keep your hands clean and germ-free
- Face Masks: Pack extra face masks if required or preferred
Cosplay Maintenance
- Cosplay Repair Kit: Include sewing tools and items like safety pins, needle and thread, fabric glue, and double-sided tape (our preferred fabric tape is Vapon Topstick)
- Makeup and Touch-Up Supplies: Bring makeup, setting spray, and other items for touch-ups
- Wig Care Items: Pack a comb, hairpins, and wig cap if you’re wearing a wig
Pan Tip! Next time you search “cosplay events near me” remember to peruse our sewing patterns for all your cosplay costume creation needs!
Comfort and Convenience
- Comfortable Shoes: If your cosplay requires challenging footwear, bring an extra pair of tennis shoes or foldable flats, just in case
- Sunscreen: Many event lines and cosplay gatherings happen outdoors, where shade isn't always available, so protect yourself from sunburn by remembering to reapply SPF
- Sweater or Light Jacket: Convention centers can be cold, so pack a light cover-up
- Compact Umbrella: Check the weather forecast, and prepare for the unexpected
Technology and Entertainment
- Camera: If you prefer a separate camera for photos, bring it along
- Notebook and Pen: Useful for jotting down notes, schedules, or contact information — and getting special guests’ autographs, of course!
- Earbuds or Headphones: For listening to music or relaxing during downtime
- DIY Craft Project: Take your hobby to-go and feel long lines fly by with our FSCO Needle Book Kit (also available as a bundle alongside our FSCO Travel Starter Tool Set)
Storage and Organization
- Backpack or Tote Bag: Choose a comfortable bag with enough space for all your items — transparent bags help speed up the process at security checkpoints
- Small Pouch: Tuck your ID, cash, and cards safely in a pouch worn under your costume — no need to worry about setting your bag down for photos or losing sight of it
- Ziplock Bags: Useful for organizing small items or protecting electronics from spills
- Convention Schedule and Map: Keep a printed or digital copy for easy reference
Additional Tips
- Extra Batteries: Bring extra batteries for any devices that might need them
- Business Cards: Handy for networking and sharing your social media handles
- Reusable Shopping Bag: For carrying any merchandise or freebies you collect
- Cash: While most vendors take cards, cash can get you discounts, and you’ll avoid those pesky card or ATM fees
